Two minute read.
I wrote this statement not too long ago. It’s about what you and I have done when we take a shallow look into the Gospels. That sounds backwards I know, but give me a chance here to explain myself. I know you will.
The Gospels are not the problem. As we read through them we find Jesus’ progressive approach to those He had the opportunity to stop and listen to, and to share truth.
The Gospel is pretty clear; recovering the power that made Christianity revolutionary.
I like this piece from Dr. J.D. Greear :
“The Gospel is an announcement, not about what we are to do for God, but about what He has done for us.”
Many, (and I do mean many) know what has been needed in these last 25 to 30 years. Greear notes that God is for us. And that truth has hit us hard at times, or at least I have felt my own life at times slowly bend to just trying to do something for this God.
The Gospel is a story built upon a person – Jesus. His life reveals to us who God is, as well as revealing God’s Heart toward us.
Gospel is about meeting God where you are.
A God who comes into the middle of our MESS!
Check it out, the “GOOD NEWS” becomes this :
GOD LOVES US AS WE ARE!!!
And you know, there is even more, if we can grasp it.
GOD NEVER LEAVES US AS WE ARE!!!
What do we think? It is an uncommon love that defies our simple notions of love. God, as far as I can figure, is patient with us as we leave, cheat, hide and even at times sellout.
We need help in understanding that someone like GOD would be FOR US just because we exist.
Now you may say, wait a minute. “I have a problem here without being able to reason through and objectively understand how God does this?”
I love that kind of challenge (sometimes) where you and I have a problem. As far as I know, God’s patience is His greatest weapon, not against us, but with the Enemy who is always against God’s creation.
Keep this in your Heart, from John’s Gospel preamble.
In him was life, and the life was the light of (mankind). The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5
Let’s take John at his writing here.
Are We For God?
The darkness has not overcome the light and thus cannot take away from you and me the life God has given us.
Blessings,
MC
