Throughout the History of Mankind, one word evokes amazement – NEW!
When you live so many years pursuing the “status quo,” it is amazing to be told there are NEW ways to Live Life. But to live life in this NEW way is impossible without having the authority – power, influence, and strength to do so. Because the “OLD life as usual” has proven to have – Amazing Authority over our lives.
What’s the Next Step? And even better, Why are we not taking it?
Let’s listen in on this conversation Jesus is having with one of his friends, Thomas.
(Jesus) You know the way to the place where I am going.
(Thomas) Lord we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?
Jesus answered, “I am the way….”
What’s happening in this exchange that relates and connects me to this conversation?
Thomas was a “player” – a Disciple, a Sojourner with Jesus. Sincere in his desire to understand and to be reassured. This man’s life had undoubtedly been radically renewed as he committed his time to a Journey with Jesus.
When one Surrenders their life to a Purpose or a Person, the relationship between life and movement changes. For instance:
- from a Girlfriend to a Wife
- from an Employee to a Partner
- from an Acquaintance to a Friend
- from a Curious Seeker to Sold Out Follower
When the Transformation begins to take place, our investment begins to and continues to reflect the NEW.
Thomas was somehow checking his direction even as he asked – …..how can we know the way? It was like he was “setting the table” for Jesus to unpack His primary reason for being with us.
I encourage us to continue reading the Sermon on the Mount. There is so much inside of what Jesus knew needed to be heard. I believe that these three chapters can help us connect with the WHY Jesus boldly proclaimed – I am the way….
