2 minute read.
How necessary is our Spiritual Life?
I asked this question of our people at Life Community earlier this year during a series from the Rob Bell book – Everything Is Spiritual.
Using questions is a mainstay at our church because questions allow responses. Questions challenge us and that of course is the point.
Spiritual lives are not something we ramp up on Sunday. To that point, during that series, we began sending out to our people this thing we simply called, After Sunday Comes Monday.
Those four words helped us remember that each day God is present even if we’re not.
In an agrarian society, Jesus chose to use seeds as a metaphor of Spiritual life itself. There are seeds that have been planted in our lives and whether they take place or not depends on ACTION!
Do you recall meeting another human being who felt the same way you feel about matters of importance? I hope you not only found that friend, I hope you two are still together working through life.
During a period in his life, Rob Bell shared this: I started paying attention to my life in new ways. I started looking for clues and directions at the intersections of my life. Most important, I started listening more.
What can we learn from brother Bell?
- I started paying attention to my life in new ways.
We all have that choice. Curiosity has been called the engine of life.
Begin a search, or, if you’re willing, don’t do it alone, do it with another friend in community.
2. I started looking for clues and directions at the intersections of my life.
We have been using that word, intersection at LCC for the last four years because that is where God is hanging out in our lives. He’s waiting to see if we are ready to go deeper into the Spiritual life.
This reminds me of Mark 1 where Jesus says, The time has come, the Kingdom of God is near, Rethink the way you have been thinking.
3. Most important, I started listening more.
The word listen contains the same letters as the word silent. Can we all just try this one day this week, one hour this week, or one minute this week? Seriously, what do we have to lose?
I’d love to hear from you who venture into this challenge. Let me know what you experienced.
