Two minute read.

The Heart of the Matter is TRULY the Matter of the Heart.

When I last left you, (LF-4) I opened up from two Proverbs which I intended to bring forth in this piece. I love Proverbs, always have, but these two, Proverbs 4:23 and 16:9 have had a hold on me over the years,

Inside of Solomon’s writing, one finds themselves, not alone, and where does that carry us too?

When we stop to Look, to Listen, to think of LIFE itself wherever one locates themselves, it brings us to that old saw; what’s next. Scary as that may seem, God has an answer.

Beginning with 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart (WHY?) for out of it is the wellspring of life.

Solomon’s point from his wisdom is; guard your heart because; for out of it is the wellspring of life. In the BibleRef we learn that the heart must be held above all else in our lives.

In the Hebrew; labe focuses on the heart as the center of all things. In the Greek; kardia or psyche deal with a broader meaning. It is not just Mental but Moral as well. So we are challenged to pay attention to the Soul of Lives. Our Understanding, Spirituality, Reasoning, and Imagination are all part of our responsibility.

Turning now to that second Proverb 16:9 – In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

Again we return to BibleRef.

Isaiah 53:6 describes human beings as sheep that have wandered away from God. We all have gone astray. You and I, in our heart, choose to, plan our course, in this life. Our approach could at times be healthy and at other times can find us lost, that’s why God notes here – but the Lord determines his steps.

Think about our own desire to move without asking God to determine our steps. It makes a huge difference in our lives.

In his book; The Ideal Team Player, by Patrick Lencioni, we learn from him about the underlying virtues that build stronger teams. Those 3 words he writes about are: Humble / Hungry / Smart

Lencioni’s 3 words remind me that to sustain the life of the heart, the life of deep desire, we desperately need to possess a clearer picture of the life that lies before us.

Living Faith isn’t just two words that Christians have heard about. They are the realties God has placed in our lives, the lives for which Jesus gave his life.

Have a great weekend!
